Anthony of Saint Anne Galvão
Anthony of Saint Anne Galvão, also called Frei Galvão, was a Brazilian Franciscan friar renowned for his piety and devotion. He is well known for his charitable works and for founding the Convent of Light in São Paulo, which remains an important religious site. Many miracles have been attributed to him, particularly cures obtained through 'Frei Galvão's pills'—small pieces of paper containing prayers. He is regarded as the first Brazilian-born saint, canonized by Pope Benedict XVI in 2007.
