St. Antony, Abbot
St. Antony, also known as St. Anthony the Great, was an Egyptian Christian monk who lived from 251 to 356 AD. He is considered the founder of Christian monasticism and is venerated as the first Christian monk. Antony lived as a hermit in the Egyptian desert, practicing a life of extreme asceticism and prayer. He attracted many followers who sought his spiritual guidance, leading him to establish one of the first Christian monasteries. Antony is known for his ability to perform miracles and for his strong resistance to the temptations of the devil. He is the patron saint of gravediggers, basketmakers, and those afflicted with skin diseases.
