Saint Nuno of Saint Mary
Saint Nuno of Saint Mary, also known as Nuno Álvares Pereira, was a renowned Portuguese general and nobleman in the 14th and 15th centuries. He played a crucial role in the Portuguese victory at the Battle of Aljubarrota, securing the independence of Portugal. After his military career, he became a Carmelite friar and was noted for his humility and charitable works. Nuno was canonized by Pope Benedict XVI in 2009 and is revered as a national hero and saint in Portugal.
