Saint Irene of Thessalonica
Saint Irene of Thessalonica was an early Christian martyr who lived in the 4th century. She was one of three sisters—Agape, Chionia, and Irene—who were persecuted for their faith under Emperor Diocletian. Refusing to renounce Christianity, Irene endured great suffering and was ultimately executed for her steadfast devotion. Her courage has inspired Christians for centuries. She is venerated as a saint in both the Catholic and Orthodox Churches.
