Saint Celestine, pope and confessor

Saint Celestine, pope and confessor, served as the Bishop of Rome from 422 to 432 AD. He is noted for his strong defense of the doctrine of the Incarnation and for condemning the Nestorian heresy. Saint Celestine also sent missionaries, notably Saint Patrick, to evangelize Ireland. His papacy was marked by pastoral care and efforts to maintain ecclesiastical unity.
