Saint Anicetus
Saint Anicetus was the Pope from around 155 to 166 AD. He was of Syrian descent and became known for his opposition to Gnosticism and for upholding orthodox Christian doctrine. Anicetus is especially remembered for his discussions with Saint Polycarp regarding the proper date to celebrate Easter. His steadfast defense of the faith earned him great respect among early Christians. He is venerated as a martyr in the Catholic Church.
