St. Michael Garicoïts, priest, Founder of Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus of Bétharram

St. Michael Garicoïts (1797-1863) was a French Catholic priest and the founder of the Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus of Bétharram. Born in the Basque region of France, he dedicated his life to serving the poor and promoting devotion to the Sacred Heart. Garicoïts founded the religious congregation in 1840, which aimed to spread the message of God's love and compassion.
