Saint Audrey
Saint Audrey, also known as Etheldreda, was an Anglo-Saxon princess who became the foundress and abbess of Ely. She is renowned for her commitment to a life of piety and virginity, even after two politically arranged marriages. Audrey founded the double monastery at Ely and is known for her generous care for the poor. She died in 679 AD after leading her community for many years, and her incorrupt body became a center of pilgrimage. Saint Audrey remains the patron saint of Ely and is venerated as a model of chastity and holiness.
