Saint Pauline of the Agonizing Heart of Jesus was born as Amabile Lucia Visintainer in Italy in 1865 and emigrated to Brazil as a child. She co-founded the Congregation of the Little Sisters of the Immaculate Conception and dedicated her life to serving the poor, sick, and marginalized. Pauline faced serious illness and suffering but remained steadfast in her faith and charitable works. She is the first Brazilian canonized saint and is especially venerated in Brazil.
