St. John the Baptist
St. John the Baptist was a Jewish preacher and prophet who lived in ancient Judea during the 1st century AD. He is venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church and is known for his role in baptizing Jesus Christ. John the Baptist was born around 5-6 BC and was the son of Zechariah and Elizabeth. He spent his life preaching repentance and baptizing followers in the Jordan River. He was eventually beheaded on the order of King Herod. John the Baptist is the patron saint of several locations and is often depicted holding a cross and lamb, symbols of his role in preparing the way for Christ.
