St. John XXIII, born Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli, was the 261st Pope of the Catholic Church, serving from 1958 until his death in 1963. He was born on November 25, 1881, in Sotto il Monte, Italy, and is remembered for his progressive reforms and his openness to the modern world. As Pope, he convened the Second Vatican Council, which led to significant changes in the Church. He was known for his kindness, humility, and concern for the poor. St. John XXIII is the patron saint of papal delegates and hospital administrators, and is venerated for his leadership and his commitment to social justice.
