Sts. John de Brébeuf and Isaac Jogues, priests and Companions, Jesuits, Canadian Martyrs

Sts. John de Brébeuf and Isaac Jogues were French Jesuit priests who were martyred in 17th century Canada while attempting to convert the Iroquois Native Americans to Catholicism. St. John de Brébeuf was born in 1593 and served as a missionary in what is now Ontario, Canada. St. Isaac Jogues was born in 1607 and worked extensively with the Iroquois before his death. Both men endured torture and execution for their faith and are considered heroic figures in the Catholic Church. They are venerated as the Jesuit Martyrs of North America and are the patron saints of Canada.
