Saint Maurus
Saint Maurus was a disciple of Saint Benedict of Nursia, and is venerated as the first Benedictine monk. According to tradition, he was known for his obedience and humility, notably saving fellow monk Placidus from drowning by walking on water at Saint Benedict's command. Maurus later became abbot of a Benedictine monastery in France. His life inspired devotion especially among Benedictines. He is often invoked for aid against rheumatism and gout.
