Saint Josephine, martyr of Darfur
Saint Josephine Bakhita was born in Darfur, Sudan, and endured slavery and great suffering in her early life. She eventually gained her freedom in Italy and converted to Catholicism, joining the Canossian Sisters. Renowned for her humility, forgiveness, and message of hope, she inspired many with her gentle faith. She was canonized in 2000 and is venerated as a patron saint of Sudan and victims of trafficking.
