Saint Porphyrius, bishop of Gaza
Saint Porphyrius, bishop of Gaza, was a Greek Christian bishop renowned for his leadership in the late 4th and early 5th centuries. Born in Thessalonica, he became bishop of Gaza in 395 AD. He is noted for his zealous opposition to paganism and for overseeing the destruction of pagan temples in Gaza, promoting Christianity in a largely pagan city.
