Porphyry of Gaza

Porphyry of Gaza was a bishop in the early Church, renowned for his dedication to building the first Christian church in Gaza, Palestine, despite strong resistance. Born around 347 in Thessalonica, he became a monk and later the bishop of Gaza. He is celebrated for his efforts to convert the local population and destroy pagan temples. His perseverance and faith left a lasting Christian legacy in a historically challenging environment.
