St. Sophronius of Jerusalem, Bishop
Saint Sophronius of Jerusalem was a prominent 7th-century bishop and theologian. Born around 560 AD, he played a key role in defending the Orthodox faith against the Monothelite heresy. As Patriarch of Jerusalem from 634 to 638 AD, he led the fight against Monothelitism and convened the Lateran Council in 649 AD, which condemned the heresy. Sophronius is renowned for his theological writings, including his "Synodical Letter" and "Life of the Virgin." He is venerated for his unwavering defense of Christological orthodoxy and his dedication to the Christian faith. Saint Sophronius is the patron saint of Jerusalem.
