St. Castulus, Martyr on the via Labicana
St. Castulus was a Christian martyr who was executed in Rome during the persecution of Christians under the Roman Emperor Diocletian in the early 4th century. He was a chamberlain in the imperial palace and used his position to secretly aid and shelter other Christians. Castulus was eventually arrested and tortured for his faith, refusing to renounce Christianity. He was then buried alive along the via Labicana, a major Roman road. Castulus is honored as a martyr and patron saint of those who face persecution for their faith.
