St. Louise de Marillac, Foundress of the Daughters of Charity
St. Louise de Marillac (1591-1660) was a French noblewoman and the co-founder of the Daughters of Charity, a religious congregation dedicated to serving the poor. She collaborated closely with St. Vincent de Paul in establishing this innovative community, which combined active ministry with vowed religious life. Louise devoted her life to caring for the marginalized and empowering women to serve their communities. She is venerated for her compassion, leadership, and devotion to the service of those in need. St. Louise de Marillac is the patron saint of social workers.
