Saint Rita of Cascia was an Italian widow and Augustinian nun famous for her piety, charity, and patience in suffering. Born in Roccaporena, Italy, in 1381, she endured a difficult marriage and the loss of her sons before entering religious life. She became renowned as a peacemaker and was reputed for obtaining miraculous favors.
