Marcian of Syracuse
Saint Marcian of Syracuse is honored as the first bishop of Syracuse, Sicily. Tradition holds that he was a disciple of Saint Peter, who sent him to evangelize the region in the 1st century. He is often credited with founding the Christian community in Syracuse and suffered martyrdom for his faith. Saint Marcian is venerated as a pioneering evangelist in Sicily and is one of the early martyrs of the Church.
