Saint Hemma, of Gurk
Saint Hemma of Gurk was an Austrian noblewoman from the 11th century venerated as a saint. After being widowed, she spent her life in charity, founding several churches and the Benedictine Abbey of Gurk. Her piety and support of the Church won her deep reverence in Austria and Slovenia. She is the patron saint of Carinthia and is especially invoked for eye ailments.
