Saint Aaron, High Priest

Saint Aaron, High Priest

Aaron, of the tribe of Levi, was the elder brother of Moses and Miriam and was chosen by God as the first High Priest of Israel, the head of the priestly line that served the sanctuary. He spoke for Moses before Pharaoh during the Exodus from Egypt. While Moses was on Mount Sinai receiving the Law, Aaron gave in to the people and made the golden calf; he repented and was forgiven by God. Because of a later failure to trust God, he, like Moses, did not enter the Promised Land, and he died on Mount Hor.
