St. Pius I, Pope

St. Pius I was the Bishop of Rome from around 142 to 155 AD. He was born in Aquileia, Italy and is believed to have died as a martyr during the persecution of Christians under the Roman Emperor Antoninus Pius. As Pope, Pius I helped establish the date for the celebration of Easter and addressed issues of church discipline and organization.
