St. Benedict (c.480-547 AD) was a prominent and influential Christian saint who lived in Italy during the 6th century. He is considered the founder of Western monasticism and is the patron saint of Europe. Benedict established the Benedictine Order and wrote the famous Benedictine Rule, which emphasized prayer, work, and community life.
