Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, martyr at Auschwitz
Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, born Edith Stein, was a German Jewish philosopher who converted to Catholicism and became a Discalced Carmelite nun. She is renowned for her intellectual works and spiritual writings. Arrested during World War II due to her Jewish heritage, she was deported to Auschwitz, where she died as a martyr. She was canonized by Pope John Paul II in 1998, recognized for her faith and witness to Christ amid persecution.
