Saint Laurence

Saint Laurence

Saint Laurence was a deacon of the early Roman Church in the 3rd century, known for his care for the poor and maintenance of church treasures. He was one of the seven deacons under Pope Sixtus II and is famed for his courage during the persecution of Christians by Emperor Valerian. When ordered to surrender the Church's wealth, he presented the poor, proclaiming them the true treasures of the Church. Laurence was martyred by being roasted alive on a gridiron. He is honored as one of the most venerated Roman martyrs.
