Saint Blane, Bishop of Dunblane
Saint Blane was a sixth-century Scottish bishop whose name is preserved in the town of Dunblane. Born on the Isle of Bute, he was sent to Ireland for his religious formation, studying under Saints Comgall and Canice at the monastery of Bangor. After his education he returned to his homeland and was consecrated a bishop, working to strengthen the Christian faith among the people of Scotland. He is traditionally associated with Saint Catan, an earlier missionary saint connected to Bute. He died around the close of the sixth century, and Dunblane Cathedral stands as a lasting memorial to his ministry.
