Saint Giles
St. Egidio, also known as Giles, was a 7th-century Christian hermit and abbot. Born in Athens, Greece, he later traveled to France and settled in a forest near Nîmes, where he lived a life of prayer and solitude. Egidio became known for his miracles and his ability to heal the sick. He eventually attracted a community of followers who established a monastery under his leadership. Egidio is venerated as the patron saint of beggars, the poor, and the disabled.
