St. Ignatius of Antioch, Bishop, Martyr in Rome
St. Ignatius of Antioch was a prominent early Christian leader and Bishop of Antioch in the 1st century AD. He was martyred in Rome around the year 107 AD during the reign of the Roman emperor Trajan. Ignatius was a disciple of the Apostle John and is considered one of the Apostolic Fathers of the Church. He wrote several influential letters during his imprisonment that emphasized the importance of church unity and the authority of bishops.
