St. Frumentius, Bishop, Apostle of Ethiopia

St. Frumentius, Bishop, Apostle of Ethiopia

St. Frumentius (c. 300-c. 380) was an early Christian saint and the first bishop of Aksum, the capital of the Kingdom of Aksum (modern-day Ethiopia). Born in Tyre, he was captured as a child and brought to Ethiopia, where he and his brother Aedesius converted the king and many of his subjects to Christianity. Frumentius was later consecrated as bishop by St. Athanasius of Alexandria and returned to Ethiopia to establish the Church. He is credited with spreading Christianity throughout the region and is known as the "Apostle of Ethiopia." St. Frumentius is the patron saint of Ethiopia and is venerated for his crucial role in the evangelization of the country.
