St. Evaristus, Pope
St. Evaristus was the fifth Pope of the Catholic Church, serving from around 100 to 109 AD. He was born in Antioch, Syria and is believed to have been of Greek descent. As Pope, he is credited with establishing the tradition of having seven deacons to assist the Pope in Rome. He is also said to have divided the city of Rome into parishes and appointed priests to serve in each one. St. Evaristus is venerated for his leadership and dedication to the early Christian Church.
