St. Rose-Philippine Duchesne
St. Rose-Philippine Duchesne (1769-1852) was a French religious sister who spent the latter part of her life as a missionary in the United States. Born in Grenoble, France, she joined the Visitation Order and later co-founded the Society of the Sacred Heart. In 1818, she traveled to the United States and established the first Sacred Heart school west of the Mississippi River. She is remembered for her deep dedication to prayer and her tireless work with Native American tribes.
