St. Gelasius I, Pope
Saint Gelasius I was the Pope of the Catholic Church from 492 to 496 AD. He was born in Rome and served as a priest and deacon before being elected as the 49th pope. During his papacy, Gelasius I defended the authority of the Church against the encroachments of the Byzantine Emperor. He is known for his writings on theology and canon law, and for his efforts to reform the liturgy and combat heresy. Gelasius I is venerated as a saint for his piety, learning, and steadfast defense of the Catholic faith. He is the patron saint of broken objects.
