John of the Cross
St. John of the Cross was a Spanish mystic, priest, and Carmelite friar. Born in 1542, he co-founded the Discalced Carmelites with St. Teresa of Ávila. Known for his spiritual writings and poetry, he is considered a Doctor of the Church for his profound influence on Christian mysticism. He endured much hardship and persecution throughout his life, but remained steadfast in his devotion to God. St. John of the Cross is the patron saint of mystics and is venerated for his contributions to Catholic spirituality. He died in 1591 and was canonized in 1726.
