Saint Gonçalo de Amarante

Saint Gonçalo de Amarante was a Portuguese priest and hermit born around 1187. He spent years as a pilgrim in the Holy Land before returning to his hometown to become a preacher. Renowned for his miracles and charity, he was particularly devoted to the poor and the sick. He died in 1259 and is venerated in Portugal and among Portuguese-speaking communities.
