Saint Gonzalo of Amarante
Saint Gonzalo of Amarante was a Portuguese priest and hermit of the thirteenth century known for his deep spirituality and charity. After making a pilgrimage to Rome and the Holy Land, he chose a life of solitude and prayer. He was recognized for his humility and for performing miracles, especially helping the poor and building a bridge over the Tâmega River. He is venerated particularly in Portugal and considered a patron for travelers and engineers.
