St. Peter Damian (c. 1007 - 1072) was an Italian Catholic bishop, cardinal, and Doctor of the Church. Born in Ravenna, he became a Camaldolese monk and later rose to prominence as a reformer and advisor to several popes. He was a tireless advocate for the reform of the clergy and the elimination of corruption in the Church. Damian was known for his austerity, his dedication to prayer and study, and his strong moral convictions. He was made a cardinal by Pope Stephen IX and played a key role in the Gregorian reforms. Damian is venerated as the patron saint of reforms in the Catholic Church.
