St. Margaret of Cortona

St. Margaret of Cortona (1247-1297) was an Italian Catholic saint and penitent. Born in Laviano, she led a troubled youth, becoming the mistress of a nobleman. After her lover's sudden death, Margaret experienced a religious conversion and joined the Third Order of Saint Francis. She devoted the rest of her life to acts of penance and charity, caring for the sick and poor. Margaret is venerated for her deep spirituality and unwavering faith. She is the patron saint of the homeless, divorced people, and those devoted to the Blessed Sacrament.
