St. Lucius I, Pope

St. Lucius I was the 22nd pope of the Catholic Church, serving from around 253 to 254 AD. He was born in Rome and is believed to have been martyred during the persecution of Christians under the Roman Emperor Valerian. As pope, Lucius I is known for his efforts to maintain the unity of the Church and defend the faith against heretical teachings. He is venerated as a saint for his steadfast leadership and ultimate sacrifice for his beliefs. St. Lucius I is the patron saint of those suffering from eye diseases.
