St. John Ogilvie, Jesuit and Martyr
St. John Ogilvie (1579-1615) was a Scottish Jesuit priest and martyr. Born in Banffshire, Scotland, he converted to Catholicism and joined the Society of Jesus in 1596. After studying in Europe, he returned to Scotland in 1613 to minister to the Catholic community during a time of persecution. Ogilvie was arrested, interrogated, and ultimately hanged for his faith in Glasgow. He is venerated as a patron saint of Scotland and the Diocese of Motherwell.
