St. Tiburtius, Valerianus, and Maximus, Martyrs on the via Appia
St. Tiburtius, Valerianus, and Maximus were early Christian martyrs who were executed on the via Appia in Rome around the year 230 AD. Tiburtius and Valerianus were brothers who were converted to Christianity by St. Cecilia, and Maximus was their friend who also converted. They were arrested and tortured for refusing to worship the Roman gods, and were ultimately beheaded for their faith. They are venerated as saints for their unwavering commitment to Christ and their willingness to give their lives for the gospel. St. Tiburtius and St. Valerianus are the patron saints of soldiers.
