St. Adalbert, Bishop of Prague and Martyr
St. Adalbert of Prague was a Bohemian Catholic bishop and missionary who lived from c.956 to April 23, 997. Born to a noble family, he became the second bishop of Prague and worked to convert pagan Prussians to Christianity. Facing resistance, he briefly resigned his see but later returned to continue his missionary work. On April 23, 997, he was martyred by pagan Prussians while attempting to convert them. Adalbert is venerated as the patron saint of Bohemia, Poland, Hungary, and Prussia, as well as of converting non-Christians to the faith.
