St Athanasius, Bishop of Alexandria in Egypt and Doctor of the Church
St. Athanasius was a prominent early Christian theologian and bishop of Alexandria in Egypt. He was born around 296 AD and died in 373 AD. As a fierce defender of the divinity of Christ against the Arian heresy, he played a crucial role in the development of orthodox Christian theology. Athanasius attended the Council of Nicaea in 325 AD and was a leading figure in the Trinitarian controversies of the 4th century. He was exiled multiple times for his unyielding stance, but ultimately prevailed. Athanasius is venerated as a Doctor of the Church for his immense theological contributions and unwavering faith. He is the patron saint of theological students.
