St. Aurea, Martyr of Ostia

St. Aurea was a Christian martyr who lived in the 3rd century AD in Ostia, near Rome. She was executed for her faith during the persecution of Christians under the Roman Emperor Decius. Aurea steadfastly refused to renounce her Christian beliefs and was ultimately put to death by drowning. She is venerated as a saint and martyr in the Catholic Church, with her feast day celebrated on May 20th. Aurea is considered a patron saint of Ostia and is invoked for protection against drowning.
