St. Bernardin of Siena, Franciscan
St. Bernardin of Siena was a Franciscan priest and preacher who lived in the 15th century. Born in 1380 in Siena, Italy, he is known for his eloquent sermons and his efforts to promote devotion to the Holy Name of Jesus. Bernardin joined the Franciscan Order in 1402 and was ordained a priest in 1404. He spent much of his life traveling throughout Italy, preaching against usury, gambling, and other vices. Bernardin is venerated as a saint for his piety, his commitment to the Franciscan way of life, and his zeal in spreading the Gospel. He is the patron saint of advertisers, communications workers, and public relations professionals.
