St. Dymphna

St. Dymphna

St. Dymphna was a 7th-century Irish princess who was martyred for her Christian faith. She was the daughter of a pagan king and a Christian mother. After her mother's death, her father's mental illness led him to pursue an incestuous relationship with Dymphna, causing her to flee to Belgium. There, she established a hospital and dedicated her life to caring for the mentally ill. However, her father eventually tracked her down and had her beheaded. St. Dymphna is the patron saint of mental health, neurological disorders, and victims of incest.
