John the Baptist

Saint John the Baptist was a Jewish preacher and prophet who lived in the 1st century AD. He is remembered for baptizing Jesus Christ in the Jordan River and preparing the way for his ministry. John's feast day is celebrated on June 24, the date of his nativity. He is the patron saint of several locations, including Jordan, Puerto Rico, and Florence. John was beheaded on the orders of Herodias, the wife of Herod Antipas, and is venerated as a martyr by the Catholic Church.
