Saint Maria Goretti, virgin and martyr
Saint Maria Goretti was born in Italy in 1890. She is known for her purity and forgiveness; at age 11, she was attacked and fatally wounded while defending her chastity. On her deathbed, she forgave her attacker. She was canonized in 1950 and is venerated as a model of mercy and youthful holiness.
