St. Celestin I, Pope
St. Celestine I was Pope from 422 to 432 AD. He was born in Rome, Italy, and is venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church. As Pope, he condemned the Nestorian heresy and convened the Council of Ephesus in 431 AD, which affirmed the doctrine of the Blessed Virgin Mary as the Mother of God. Celestine also sent missionaries to convert the Scots and the Irish to Christianity. He is the patron saint of Naples, Italy, and is invoked for protection against storms.
